Heavy Engineering Workshop
In order to further expand on turnkey construction business of Hydro Power Projects, in which Jaiprakash Associates Ltd. (JAL) is already a name to reckon with, a need was felt to develop & establish inhouse capability for the supply of varied range of Hydro Mechanical equipment & structures. With this focus in mind JAL, set up 4 modern penstock manufacturing workshops at Tala (Bhutan), Baglihar (J&K), Chamera (H.P) and Vishnu Prayag (Uttaranchal) Hydroelectric power plant sites.
Location
JAL consolidated its operations through a strategic focus of enlarging its manufacturing strength in establishing the state-of-the-art modern Heavy Engineering Workshop (HEW) at Rewa (M.P) for undertaking fabrication of Specialized Products and Systems for the Core Sector Industry.
Collaborations
HEW with integrated infrastructural facilities was established in November 2002 with technological and strategic co-operation with Harza Engineering International, L.P. Chicago ( USA) and Steward Machines Company, Bramingham, Albama. In addition, JAL has recently entered into strategic alliance with PHB Weserhutte SA Spain (part of TSK Group) for business of Stacker Reclaimers, Ship Loaders, Articulated boom cranes.

HEW’s Engineering Office located at arm’s length to the workshop is manned by experienced professionals with enviable reputation of working in computer friendly environment with simultaneous training to streamline and enhance operational efficiency. HEW’s Engineering is fully backed by Jaypee Group’s modern software development centre Jaypee Venture Ltd. (JVL) situated near New Delhi which has been assigned CT-1 grade - indicating very strong engineering capacity – the highest grade assigned to Consultants in the field of construction
HEW, is spanned over 80,000 sqm of land, in the heart of India’s Cement Belt. To meet the needs & challenges of future, present workshop area of 9000 sqm is being expanded by further 6000 sq.m with further installation of Modern machine tools to enhance its annual manufacturing capacity to 7500MT of Heavy fabrications. Equipped with rich blend of heavy & precision machine tools. HEW has developed capability to manufacture sophisticated heavy equipment/technological structures to match the exacting international quality standards, comparable only with the best in the Industry. HEW is well equipped with wide range of material handling facilities including 30T/15T Electric Operated (EOT) Cranes, 50T Goliath Crane, Mobile Cranes in capacity upto 75T. Preparatory Section for manufacture includes Hydraulic Press/ Hydraulic Press Brake each of 500T capacity, Section bending and straightening machine, Four Roll Plate Rolling machine with pre-pinching facilities, Five Roller plate straightening machine, CNC-Oxy Acetylene Profile Cutting/Plasma cutting machines most of which are imported from Europe. HEW has installed wide range of welding facilities including TIG, MIG, MAG, Submerged Arc welding (SAW) machines. Specialized precision machining facilities covering wide range of dimensions, weights, thickness include Edge Planning machines, Radial/Portable Universal drilling machines, Vertical boring machine with DRO facility, Horizontal Boring machines with DRO facility, CNC Universal Milling machine, Open side Plano Miller with milling & planer head, etc, to name a few.
Infrastructural facilities encompass uninterrupted Power supply with 100% DG backup, 500-1000 Amp insulated Bus Trunking System, Liquid Oxygen/Compressed Oxygen system, Oil fired – Bogie hearth type Stress relieving furnace of 30T handling capacity & in size 3.5M x 3.5M x 12M, etc.

Quality Control
Well qualified and experienced Q.C Engineers monitor quality at every stage of manufacture starting from the procurement of raw materials and bought-outs through every intermediate stage to the end products through well established quality control, documentation and procedures, whose constant quest for excellence is aided with the modern and wide range of NDT/DT facilities. Well established and self contained quality control laboratory include Portable Xray Testing, Digital Ultrasonic Testing, Universal Tensile/Impact Testing, Hardness Testing facilities among others.
Jobs Executed
During 3 years of HEW operations, in addition to Hydro-mechanical equipment supplied for various Mega Hydro Power Projects, HEW has accomplished capacity enhancement and retrofit jobs of wide variety for the Cement Plant, Captive Thermal Power Plants including Conveyor System & Manufacture of EOT/HOT/Grab Cranes. |
